Landing Your Dream Job: Tools and Instructions

Welcome to the “Landing Your Dream Job” workshop! We’ll be using various online tools to help you explore, create, and receive feedback on your job application materials. Please follow the instructions for each tool below.


Tool 1: Google Forms – Assessing Job Application Readiness

Purpose: To evaluate your current understanding of job applications.

Instructions:

  1. Click on this link to access the assessment form: Google Forms Job Application Readiness Quiz.
  2. Complete each question thoughtfully. This assessment will help us understand what you already know and identify areas we need to focus on.

Tool 2: Padlet – Collaborative Exercises

We’ll be using Padlet for group discussions, brainstorming, and sharing drafts. Here are the different Padlets we’ll use throughout the workshop:

  1. Key Sections of a Resume
    • Purpose: To discuss the essential parts of a resume.
    • Instructions: Access the Padlet here: Key Sections of a Resume.
    • Post your thoughts on which sections are most important and why.
  2. Favorite Job Listing
    • Purpose: To find and share a job listing that interests you.
    • Instructions: Access this Padlet here: Favorite Job Listing.
    • Share a job posting that you find exciting and explain what drew you to it.
  3. Peer Review Swap
    • Purpose: To give and receive feedback on cover letters.
    • Instructions: Access the Peer Review Padlet here: Peer Review Swap.
    • Upload your draft and review a peer’s cover letter, adding comments for improvement.
  4. Discussion on Key Resume Sections
    • Purpose: To dive deeper into each section of the resume.

    • Join the discussion by adding comments on each resume section.
  5. Interactive Resume Gallery
    • Purpose: To upload and share your fictional resume for feedback.

    • Upload your resume to share with the group and receive feedback.
  6. Hopes and Fears
    • Purpose: To discuss your expectations and concerns about the job search process.

    • Post about what you’re excited for and any worries you have regarding job applications.

Tool 3: Quizizz – Resume Knowledge Check

  1. Resume Dos and Don’ts
    • Purpose: To test your knowledge of best practices for resumes.

    • Answer each question to the best of your ability to see what you already know about resume formatting and tips.
  2. Mastering Resumes and Cover Letters Quiz
    • Purpose: To reinforce what you’ve learned about resumes and cover letters.

    • Test your knowledge and understanding of creating strong application materials.

Tool 4: Google Docs – Creating Your Resume

Purpose: To draft a fictional resume based on a template.

Instructions:

  1. Use this template to get started: Google Docs Resume Template.
  2. Fill out each section with fictional or real information that showcases your skills and experience.
  3. Once complete, save your resume for uploading to Padlet.

Tool 5: Slido – Q&A Session

Purpose: To anonymously ask questions during the session.

Instructions:

  1. Access Slido here: Slido Q&A.
  2. Submit any questions you have about resumes, cover letters, or the job application process.
  3. You can also upvote questions from other students that you’d like to hear answered.
